Alejandro Ataucusi

Alejandro Ataucusi (born and raised in Lima, Peru) is a guitarist, composer, educator and band leader of Afro-Peruvian Jazz band Forbidden Tropics. He has been the guitarist for the William Paterson University Latin Jazz Ensemble since 2013. Since then, Alejandro has played with many well-known Latin Jazz artists such as Jimmy Bosch, Claudio Roditi, and members of the Tito Puente Orchestra such as Ray Vega, Mitch Frohman, and Jose Madera. His latest album with Forbidden Tropics titled “Peruvian Rhapsody” blends Afro-Peruvian rhythms such as Festejo, Lando, Zamacueca, and Panalivio with harmonic elements of Jazz. Besides playing guitar, Alejandro is also a charango and hatun charango player. Currently, he is working on a new EP where he will be releasing his solo compositions on the hatun charango.

Alejandro is based in New Jersey, and he plays regularly as a solo act or with Forbidden Tropics.
